You are on the good tracks. Based on my experiments with the LARSCAN I have
a slit of 1.5mm to 2mm at 3 mm from the film plane. A good and easy
materials to make the slit is the plastic exterior sheet  in wich are made
the body of the old 5 inches computer disquettes. On the same base it seems
that the rotation out of the nodal point don't affect the sharpness. This
system has some limits in sharpness, don't forget to look at your prints
without a loupe !
