Re: widelux
I've replied to the list on this because the comments may be helpful to
others.
1. Yes, all the images on my web page
http://homepages.tesco.net/~trowbridge/
were taken with a 35mm Widelux, an F6.
2. Yes, I have had trouble with banding, but only at the slowest 1/10 sec
speed. This started during the U.S. trip (I live in England) and later
became totally erratic. It was fixed by a local dealer who specialises in
vintage and obsolete cameras. I don't think I would recommend shipping
these cameras, though - I treat mine fairly carefully. So far so good!
3. The images from the USA are all shot on 50ASA Fujichrome, and this is my
preferred film. It has a richness of colour that scans well. I never used
Kodachrome because they lost a film on one occasion and I prefer to use a
local E6 professional processor who is used to doing process only, uncut and
roll! However, Fujichrome seems to be difficult to obtain, and I don't know
if it has been discontinued. The problem with the Widelux is that you have
a minimum exposure of 1/250 @ f/11 which means 50ASA in bright sunshine (to
allow a little leeway). The stitching problem came about because I recently
flew to the Channel Islands (these are islands in the English Channel,
English speaking, but close to France) and mindful of x-ray problems I took
no Fujichrome with me, thinking I would buy some there. Nowhere on the
islands had any transparency film slower than 200ASA, and nobody could do E6
processing in under about 2 weeks! I was forced to use Fujicolor (and
200ASA!) and with the greater latitude I was just about OK.
Has anyone put filters on an F6? A neutral density would solve my
problems...
