Some of the RIP packages might allow you to make longer prints with the
1520. Here's a link that lists many of the available packages:
http://www.islandartcards.com/epson/RIPcompare.html
Some of the companies have demo versions so you might want to try them out
first. Epson's own Stylus RIP (current version) still has the 44" limitation
so it would not work. The EPSON 9000 without the hardware Fiery RIP still
has a 90" limit (despite a $9K price tag)
Jon Cone's http://www.inkjetmall.com will soon have a RIP for the Epson 3000
that can make long banner prints. You can ask Jon if he's working on a
version for the 1520.
I was at SIGGRAPH in L.A. last week and saw beautiful prints from Roland's
Hi-Fi Jet http://www.hifijet.com/ , Epson's 9000 and ColorSpan's Display
Maker VII http://www.colorspan.com/ Instead of buying a new car, save your
money for one of these, you will not be disappointed.

I am trying to find a wide,(at least 13in) printer that will handle long
panoramics.
Both the HP1120 and the Epson 1520 are limited to 44in.

If anyone knows of printer software that would let these, or other machines,
print longer pages it would be appreciated.
