Andy, Jim and Joan McKeown in their Collectors Guide to Kodak cameras state
that the Model 4 had a single speed shutter, no hinged lens cover and no
brilliant finder while the 4 B,C, D had dual speed shutters, hinged lens
cover and brilliant finder.

They do not provide explicit differences among the letters, nor do they
provide production runs. But some points might be useful>

1) In 1900 and 1901, the camera has a rapid rectiliner lens. From 1902, until
1924, it had a meniscus lens.

2) The 4C is shown as having a production run from 1903 to 1907; the 4 from
1899 to 1900 -- so the 4B must be sandwiched in there, between 1900 and 1903,
with possible overlaps in production or with new models starting within the
calendar year.

3) The 4D shows two production runs -- 1907-1914, and 1914 to 1924 (this with
a 6-18-14 patent)

4) No Model 4A is listed.

Hope this helps.
