"format of the future".... Sounds like marketing hype to me.
My guess is because 6x12 is 2:1 ratio and all the hi-def TV's and future
computer monitors are supposedly going to have "tubes"/ LED's/ whatever
proportioned approx. 16:9, which is very close to 2:1 .
