I have done some tests with an Epson Stylus Photo 700, original inks and
the newer glossy "photo lab" quality Epson paper S041140.
I cut prints in half and stored the non-displayed half wrapped in tinfoil in a
ziplock bag, displayed sections were bare (no glass).
On a south facing windowsill in August (UK), fading was evident after one
week, a test print on the wall in the same room (no direct sunlight), showed
fading after two weeks.
But it is not just sunlight that is a problem, I set up prints in a windowless
room, only illumination by "daylight" fluorescent tubes (2x40W in diffusers at
3m for 8hrs each 24hr cycle), fading was evident after only three weeks.
On my first attempt at using non-Epson inks I got blocked nozzles that could
not be cleared by any amount of cleaning, so after replacing the printer I
thought that I would let someone else test the alternative inks :-(
I hope that the permanance of the inks/paper for the forthcoming Epson
printers is as good as they claim, I will certainly test them when they
become available in the UK.
