Thank to all of you for your valuable comments about banding. It is a
frustrating problem. For "Cirkut"-type cameras (Thanks Andrew for your
precisions)
I enjoy very much making panoramas
I believe it’s a formidable media
Alan , i saw you and your Lookaround at Mont Saint-Anne (Québec). Great
work. Bravo!
Andrew your explanation of banding is in a sense reasssuring for a
handbuilder. The more you know… Please more detail on ‘’a hand-scanner
based panoramic camera’’. Fantastic project!
My last intervention concerning film manufacturers could be one suggestion
for them to develop a product adapted to panoramic pictures taking with
rotating cameras. Dont get me wrong. I’m not blaming them for banding. But
how often did i buy a roll of film of any brand ,in any store to put im my
camera and was deceived by the uneven camera rotation. When your a
cameramakers you have to be rigourous and i test my camera very often with
customised blank film test that are reliable.
Another way to avoid this additionnal banding factor is to buy bulk film
and bulk film containers (35mm) and customise them for you usage.
For 2 ¼ films that is another story. There is almost 100% more surface than
35 mm, no cartbridge, a unreliable film spool that does not allow even
unspooling of the film….etc.
Am i complaining?
Panoramic is beautifull!
Un très Joyeux Noel à tous et mes vœux les plus sincères à tous les
panoramistes pour la prochaine année.
Daniel Larin
