off-topic discussions, unsubscribing, panorama definition, etc

There have been a lot of off-topic messages lately, which have
apparently resulted in a lot of unsubscribing (which may also be due
to people not wanting email while they are on holidays).

I normally keep out of these discussions, because it usually only adds
to the problem, but it would be a pity if an incredibly useful
resource such as this list died as many other lists have done because
one couldn't tell what was useful any more. I don't know where else I
would go for information if this list did not exist.

I don't really care if off-topic stuff is discussed, so long as it
says so in the subject line so I can just delete it.

There has also been some arguing about what counts as panoramic.
As far as I'm concerned, if it has to do with achieving any kind of
wide image that you aren't going to get help with in a "normal"
photography forum then it has a place here. For me that includes
cropping standard shots, gluing photos together, stitching them with
software, etc, as well as rotating-type cameras.
