The last time I measured---leader was 19.5" long and trailer was 26". If
you're just interested in knowing when the film is hitting the slit, the
best way to tell is to run the film with the box off the camera so you can
watch it. Then you know for sure. Kodak always gives you more film than
they say anyway, so you aren't losing anything. The door on the slit
really does stop the film from being exposed so you can just attach the
back to the camera and start shooting right away.
