I guess you mean 'rectilinear' when you talk
about distortion free lenses. For mathematical
reasons, these are limited to field-of-fiew < 180 degrees.
Rectilinear images start looking funny at
angles larger of ~120 degrees. See my comparison

You don't need to buy a rectilinear lens to make
rectilinear images. You can photograph with fisheye
lenses or scanning slit cameras and digitally
convert the image, eg using my free 'Panorama Tools'.
