Nikon 15mm5.6 for panoramic photos?

Hay everybody,
i know that it's a little bit "dangerous" to post the
following question to this group where eveybody
is dealing with very expensive ond sophisticated
panorama-cameras. So please don't tear off my head...
Yesterday i tried the Nikon 15 mm 5.6.
Its horizontal angle-of-view is 100.4 degrees
(calculated with http://www.mat.uc.pt/~rps/photos/angles.html).
This is very near to the (horizontal) 100 degrees of the
Linhof Technorama 617 III with the Schneider Super-Angulon 72mm
(calculated with http://www.mat.uc.pt/~rps/photos/angles.html, too).
When i looked through the 20-year-old Nikkor, the distortions
were not as dramatic as expected and far more less than with
the Sigma 14 mm 3.5 i own, but don't use often.
Of course, the negative 24x36 mm format is small.
Very small. O.k., it's tiny in comparison with the Linhof
of other Large format cameras.
But in the darkroom it is possible "to crop panoramas"
from the 24x36 mm-negatives. They will show
"the same content" like the Technorama. Another
advantage: You dont't have to buy one of those
gigantic enlargers... The Nikon 15mm will cost
1000 $, the Linhof 6000 $. To try living in
panoramic - would't the Nikkor be the right choice?
:-) Thilo
