Dear Panographers,
Sam Welch wrote me asking how I lit my night group pictures, but when I
wrote him back his e-mail address didn't work. I am putting this on the list
in hopes that he is a member of the list and gets this reply. ....George
Pearl :-)

Hi Sam!
I use the old 8mm movie light fixtures made by Bell & Howell company. The
lamps used in these fixtures look like a small headlight. The original lamps
used in these units were balanced at 3200 degrees kilvin, but I found some
that would fit that are balanced for daylight! The FAY 650 watt bulbs are
blanced for 5,000K , daylight....more or less. I use two of these movie
lights on a stick one on top of each other. I aim one all the way towards
the rear, and the other I feather out from the front to the center. It all
works out pretty good, except the lights are really bright and people don't
do well looking up into them. I have the light pole attached to the camera
so they rotate around with the camera during the exposure. I am looking into
another kind of light unit, but at present I use the FAY bulbs in the movie
light fixtures. A "sun gun" is sort of the same thing. Good luck.
My best,
George S. Pearl, BCQDE, BCEP, FEPIC, QPP
