Dear Nathan,
As far as I know Frits Rotgans (1912-19782)
never used a cirkut camera. But certainly he was a panaroma-pioneer in
Holland. Last year three books were (re)published : Schiphol Airport
/ Panorama Rotterdam / Panorama Rotgans. All photos made in fifties/sixties.
Booksize: 12 x 30 cm, B/W pictures, Dutch/English text. Publishers: Duo/Duo
Rotterdam, Mathenesserlaan 304 ,3021 HW Rotterdam Tel/Fax:
*31 10 4778529, costs about $ 15 each.

dear rinus- yes, i knew frits
quite well and if you send me your snailmail address (in block form so
that i can copy it onto an envelope) i'll send xerox of popular photography
column i wrote that mentions frits in passing. he was one of my main panoramic
mentors, yet not to exclude the great marty forscher. i am still in touch
with his daughter and granddaughter. frits made a "temporary" 6x17cm camera
for me to use at the south pole 11-62. another camera frits did for me
was 6x9cm with off-centered schneider angulon. the 6x17 was equipped with
frits' modified torpedo camera magazines which had their own darkslides
and were heavy as all getout. no matter, frits was very strong. the story
of frits at nouvelle eve in paris is kind of humorous as it tells of a
goof. joe alblas of capilux was along for that shoot as well as subsequent
one in paris. simon nathan
