Right on! 

This is what the digi-panographers have known for some time and what the
debate reiterated. 

......just trying to spur some interest in 4pi photography (besides IPIX).

Typically linear CCDs are much better for use with fisheyes than film
cameras. The slit width used in film cameras is often around 0.5 - 1mm,
while the width of a CCD sensor is only around about 5 -12 microns.
There in lies the advantage in this case of digital over film.
