Multiple focal length revolving cameras like the
cirkut and super roundshot are by nature the winner,
even if you only own one focal length lens!
Will the image be better? That is up to the operator.
For single focal length cameras the factory sets how
much film is pulled. Nothing here to screw up. For
multiple focal length cameras the operator has
controll over the amount of film that is pulled. Too
much or too little and the image will suffer. One more
thing to for the photographer to screw up. :-(
A revolving camera designed for multiple focal lenghts
has a definate advantage! They can take into account
if you are focusing near or far. 100 years ago Cirkut
cameras came with a set of gears to make this
adjustment. See for yourself, look through your 35mm
SLR and turn the focus ring back and forth. You will
see that things get fuzzy and sharp. Look very
closely, you will also see that the image gets
slightly bigger and smaller too! If you are an
ignorant operator and change the focus of your lens
without changing the amount of film pulled to match
then the image will suffer.
BTY, when I build a single focal length LarScan I use
a zoom lens. The zoom allows the user to make the
slight changes in the image size to match where in the
scene you have focused.
