The other thing to keep in mind is that, since the Texaco case, 
fair use does not apply to for-profit entities, even if they are 
engaging in education or research.  In other words, if you are 
engaged in e-commerce, you can't use "fair use" as an excuse for 
violating copyright law.  And anything that is written in a fixed 
format, including email and web pages, automatically has 
copyright protection.
