I do lot's of photos with a #8 outfit and have found it very
reliable, even without the power of a #10 spring. I've noticed a
couple of things that help minimize banding. I rewind the kodak 8
inch film so the black side of the leader is out. This lessens the
angle from the spool to the slit. Lots of people run #8's with film
straight from the box, but I've found I get less banding with reverse
spooling. The steeper the angle while pulling something over an edge,
the greater the friction. The other important thing is to wind the
film onto the drum with the lense cap on and then rewind before
exposure to make sure the film isn't sticking to itself as it
unwinds. It makes a big difference. (thanks Ron Klein!) I've been
getting photo's where you can't see any banding, and my #8 isn't all
that great. Jamie
