subj: Jim Crowell and XP-2 by Ilford.

This is the best black and white film in the world!! (i.e. the only
film you
can print from without dodging and get prints like a master printer!)
BUT..if the one-hour lab does a good (hopefully normal) job of
processing the negative in C-41, there is no assurance they can print
it correctly onto color paper. To do this right they should contact
Ilford for hints on how to do a good job. The big thing is not to
oversell the B&W aspect and have them send out the film for true b&w
processing..you must make sure they know it is to be done in C-41.
Many labs are scared to death of reloaded film..if such is the case
(from bulk load) as they might get the studio 5247 type (old #?) that
deposits carbon black in their machines and ruins all production. So
what you
need is an educated one-hour processor who knows the Ilford product
and may
have even setup a channel for it. (I think one of the hints is to put
a dev.
blank color neg i.e. orange mask, in the aperture..so the machine can
get a
good black and white on the color paper.) BobH
