Hi Kevin (and all stereotypes),

Re your question on finding replacement parts for an antique stereoscope:
good luck! There were literally hundreds of styles and brands of viewers made
from the 1860s through the early 1900s, hardly any of them with
interchangeable parts.

It seems the crossbars/view stage are the parts most often missing, so you
may have better luck finding a hood.

You may want to check with Russell Norton, a dealer/collector in New Haven,
CT (203-562-7800). He sells these neat archival covers/protectors for views,
books regarding antique photos, and viewers: more modern Keystones for $88,
antiques for $53-68. He must have a bunch...maybe he has some spare parts,
too.

I've got a question of my own for other antique aficianados here: has anyone
heard of a turn-of-the-century stereographer named G.S. Aitken? The views I
have are of Idaho. Darrah doesn't list an Aitken in Idaho.
