Help, Realist!
Hi Guys -
This is my first posting to the list, so please go easy on me if I fluff any of
the finer (or even not-so-fine) points of netiquette!
I've been interested in stereo photography for a while and, about six months
ago, I bought a Realist 3.5. In the main, I'm very pleased with the results,
but I have a recurrent problem which no one seems to be able to crack.
On about one stereo in ten, I get slight fogging. It appears as an orange
streak, extending from the bottom of the frame (when it's viewed the right way
up) almost to the top. It's always on the right-hand chip of the pair - that
is, the one with the notch.
I assume it's some sort of light leak, as the problem occurs mostly with stereos
taken in bright sunlight, but the puzzling thing is that the fogging stops dead
at the edge of the picture area - it doesn't extend into the area around the
film sprocket holes.
When I found the fault, I returned the camera to the supplier, who attempted to
cure it by adding new matt black paint to the focus mechanism and other parts
between the lens and the film. This may have made things better (we don't get
enough bright sun in the UK during the winter for me to give the camera a
thorough test!), but the problem is certainly still there.
If anyone can offer any suggestions, I'd be most grateful!
Keith W.
