It's funny, but I haven't really noticed that. In my relatively short
collecting history (a few years), most of the other collectors I've met have
been either on line or over the phone--neither reliable methods for guessing
ages. But when I've learned ages of online collectors I know _most_ of them
are younger than I, so there ya go.
Jim Motley (online, so must be a youngster) supplied the good info about NSA.
This year is the first I've been a member, but from my limited experience as
one, I'm not particularly surprised to learn that I'm not on the membership
list (I haven't seen the list yet, but it's only December, so there's still
hope....) ;-) Any suggestions on how I might get a copy?
NSA members in Central Florida: let's see, Paul E. in Winter Park (who I met
here, though we haven't yet had a face-to-face), L. Hendricksson in Merritt
Island (who saw my ad in an antique shopper and called me).... those are the
only ones I know. Paul and I discussed having some sort of stereotype
get-together and maybe we'll get that going. My goal: NSA Convention in
Orlando in 2001!
Like Wolfgang Sells, I too would like to learn more about tissue views. If I
understand correctly, a photographic emulsion can be applied to make almost
any surface photosensitive. The "hidden" objects, the use of pinpricking...
these seem to be very unusual, if not unique, techniques. Are they? (I've
never seen a tissue view, BTW)
My main research sources: The two Darrah stereograph books, Waldsmith, and
(soon, I hope) the Treadwell list, which another great photo-3der recently
told me about. "Anthony: the man, the cameras, etc" is also very good. Any
other sources I should have?
To Bob Wier: Thanks for the encouraging words. I don't understand the
mechanics, amount of work involved, etc, of running a system like
photo-3d.... but a final thought (in the words of a great scriptwriter): "If
you build it... they will come!"
Thank you all!
