Nishica 8000 questions

I have a pair of Ricohflex TLR cameras, and would like to try my hand at
stereo photography.  I need advice (including, but not limited to)...

Is it a good idea, or should I spring for a Realist?

How can I (cheaply) synchronize the shutters?

Should I mount one of the TLR's flipped upside-down for minimum separation?

What viewer should I use?

Should I shoot transparencies or prints?
