This is not a modification but an accessory. (I don't know who made it.) The
ring is a spring that holds the whole affair in place. Unless someone has
glued it in, it should just snap out. I acquired one with my first
Realist--and kept it when I sold the camera. It's drawback is that it cuts
off the corner of the viewfinder which some may find objectionable.
