Subject: View-Master Reel Repair Revisited
Thank you for all of your comments. The main reason I am interested in
repairing reels is that I bought a whole batch of reels that must have sat in
someones uninsulated attic or garage for a long time, resulting in warpage,
etc. Several of the reels are fairly scarce, the scarcest being a brown-front
hand lettered reel #89. Attempting to view this reel in any of the standard
viewers (and I have all of the basic model types) would damage the reel even
more, due to the type of warping involved. The only way to view the reel
without damaging it further was to use the model B, because then I could
reposition the reel without the edges or advance holes taking any abuse. There
are also a couple of common reels that are almost delaminated. Rather than
throw them away, I might as well glue them and use them for demo reels in my
disply viewers.
These reels are not likely to be sold in my lifetime, but if I ever did sell, I
guarantee that I would accurately represent their condition. I just want the
reels to be usable by me or someone I want to show it to. Sorry to scare any
of you who are/were worried that I might ruin collector value or attempt to
pass them off on an unsuspecting buyer.
Jim
