Through my wife being a self employed businesswoman (a Dentist), I've learned
though my involvement with her business that "being a business expense and
therefore deductable" isn't all its cracked up to be (rats!).
If you save a dollar of expense, that dollar falls to the bottom line and
goes into your pocket as gross income. The difference between being deductable
or not (numerically) is one's personal income tax rate (spending a pre-tax dollar
or a post tax dollar).
In other words, having a Pro being willing to throw away 90% of his images is
financially equivalent to a non-pro being willing to throw away 86% of his
images (in terms of cost per kept-image). If one assumes that a non pro is
probably a lot less critical as to what's good, then even with the write-off,
the cost per kept perceived-good-image is *still* lower for the non-pro.
