King Inn 2 1/4 viewer - Help!

I received a King Inn 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 viewer with orders to improve it.  Here
is list of what the owner does not like:

1. Quality of lenses.
2. Septum that bocks a bit of the image at the edges.
3. Glossy finish of internal surfaces.

Since this is the first viewer of this kind that I see and do not have room
for mistakes I wonder if anyone in this list has any recommendations on
what to do.

The lenses appear to be single-element of 80 mm FL.  Any suggestions for
replacement?  Any help will be appreciated.
