There has been a lot of hype about the advantages of various kinds of
information filtering--you can get a newspaper containing only articles on
subjects that interest you, etc. 

It's bushwah!

One of the advantages of paper newspapers and magazines is that the editor
has a shot at getting you  to read something you might have filtered out if
you had been asked. The serendipty of this process is a major element of
creativity I believe.

I vote for keeping a single list. I want to see what every crackpot
subscriber has to say. 8-)

On the issue of cost, I certainly hope that everyone reads and responds
offline. There is no excuse for paying the rates of the metered services
such as AOL for access to email, newsgroups or mailing lists.
