Stereoscopic imaging was always, it is still important and will always be
important in science. I work at a research lab and use a Scanning Electron
Microscope to record stereo pairs on a routine basis. We use stereo
microscopes every day. Stereo pairs are being recorded in any place
(reseach centers, universities, etc.) where SEM's or TEM's are found.
Articles about stereoscopic techniques appear in scientific journals every
month.

Still, the average person has no idea what stereoscopic imaging is all
about. I think that the technical applications of stereoscopic imaging do
not reach the general public. We need more hobbyist doing 3-d photography,
IMO.
