>Perhaps I wasn't clear in my request earlier. I'm not looking for the step-by-step procedural "solution" for repairing a Model D viewmaster. I'm simply looking for the best liquid solution for abating and/or removing the corrosion from metal parts damaged by battery acid. Any takers?

Yes, The best stuff to use is something called Rustbuster. It's used for de-rusting metal but i've never found anything that attacks the battery corrosion crud better. It bubbles it up and leaves only metal (usually copper because the chrome plating is already gone). It's produced (here) in San Diego, and is available in boating and marine stores.

A quick look at the MSDS shows that it's mostly made up of phosphoric acid, but pure phosphoric doesn't work as good as Rustbuster,(well, it does, but just takes longer). I was just working on this because I (wrongly) assumed that the corrosion would be acidic and used a stong base solution to dissolve it away, no luck. It's basic, I don't know why, but this works, so now get some Rustbuster or Phorsphoric acid, where? I don't know... P.S. I have nothing to do with this company...
