On the other hand, I think that many, indeed most, of the people on this list and elsewhere who are serious photographers don't look at it as merely "a way of recording and capturing information." Even a photographer like Ansil Adams who, on the surface, was merely recording views of the west, was really doing a whole lot more. Color, and even 3D (amazing as it seems) would probably not have made his pictures "better."
