I actually "modernized" my TDC-116 with halogen bulbs by using some bayonet
adapters that were manufactured by Sylvania many years ago.  I forget exactly
which bulb I used but it was as close to the original voltage and wattage
as I could get.  The light output was whiter, but not any brighter.  The 
additional heat generated by the bulbs over-taxed the standard TDC blower
and one of my adapters cracked from the heat.  At that point I removed both
adapters and bulbs for safety and went back to the standard bulbs.  I'd be
interested in hearing if anyone else has successful made an upgrade of 
their TDC projectors.
