Harold Lloyd and bad 3-d Photography

>anything about photography!
Bob, how about: "George, I was surprised to read your comment
regarding..." ;) ;) ;) (didn't you read my posting on manners? ;) ;))
But your comments are correct. Because of the lack of camera
automation, the average photographer in the 50s knew more about
exposure and camera mechanics than the average snapshooter today.
However, there were many people using these cameras without much
thinking and the worst part is that they kept all their pictures!
Hence the incredibly bad slides that I find from time to time.
BTW, I have read/heard that even Harold Lloyd has some really bad
stuff in his collection. Note: That's what I've heard, I have no
first-hand experience. People who have gone through his slide
collection just could not believe some of the things they found. The
opinion is out that Harold was an average (or below average) stereo
photographer. According to his grand daughter (who for the longest
time thought that her grandfather was a photographer!), Harold took
over three hundred thousand stereo slides!
To put this number in perspective, with my rate of 1000 slides per
year -- that's about 35 rolls --, I'll need THREE HUNDRED YEARS to
take that many pictures!
He also had an assistant who loaded the cameras for him and did the
mounting. I only wish that his assistant went through his slides to
throw 90% away. This might as well serve as a warning to those of you
determined to keep every last picture, including the half frame at the
end. Better clean up and trim your collections now before it's too
late!
