Derek Gee..says he does it and believes in it.

I suppose that it is the difference between a club where one has
little control over the mounting of the submitted slides and a
collection mounted by the
photographer being projected. In the "old days" it was thought that an
occassional mismounting is better left alone rather than you torque
the audiences eyeballs by adjusting. The idea "precision mounting" is
to avoid such things.
