I'm always imaging slides through Slide Imagers in Atlanta, GA.
I wouldn't recommend that you image anything less than 2048x1365 for
projection purposes. These also look pretty decent in a viewer.
Of course you can go higher on the resolution but it really depends upon the
image and the application, if it's worth the effort or not. I do know that
Slide Imagers offers 4000 line and 8000 line but this is usually best used
with larger format imaging.
I did have the opportunity to get an 8x10 8000 line positive on one of the
stereograms I did... it was Awesome... but at $265 each... it better be.
