Patrick...these were the original rangefinder on the first Leica. If
you can find one of these they are perfect and very accurate and well
made. The look like a square rod with disc at each end (which fits the
standard Leica shoe on most cameras). They have one eyepiece lens and
two window lenses.
Later years saw the Kodak Pocket Rangefinder and some others. I have
used these on stereo..BUT in many cases you don't want to focus but to
use the
hyperfocal distance to get the most depth.
