10x Magnifiers for Stereo Viewer
- From: klein@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Alexander Klein)

Hi fellow 3D-folks,
I just came home from a photo-show. I couldn't resist to buy two focusing
10x magnifying lenses to build a stereo viewer.
The lens covers a Realist format slide (with slight vignetting at the
edges). It's also great for View-Master (larger magnification than the
V-M model D focussing viewer).
I dismantled the magnifying lens to find out how it's constructed:

Film Triplet Plano-convex
(PCX) lens
The lenses have a 23 mm diameter, and the Triplet's magnification is
approx. 1/3 less than that of the Realist Red Button viewer.
I just tried the triplet with a 6x6 slide - and it works just fine
(with slight vignetting at the corners).
The lens comes with two transparent screw-on bases, one clear, one
matte. It also comes with a 36.4 mm diameter glass reticle with a
crosshair and a horizontal rule, extending 15mm from the center
(30 mm total). It's marked in 0.5mm increments. From 0 to 1 mm it's
marked in 0.1 mm increments, from 1 mm to 2 mm it's marked it 0.2 mm
invrements.
The overall quality it excellent. It looks similar to the Edmund 7x Wide
Field Comparator (# C37,696, on page 133 of Edmund's latest catalog
16N1).
I have asked the guy who sold them if he can supply more - and the
reply was "yes". So if anybody is interested, I can get them for
$60 each, plus postage. I can accept US-checks in US-$.
Drop me a line at klein@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx if you're interested.
