Your best bet is to use one of the negative/positive systems like RGB or Seattle
Filmworks. They sell Eastmancolor short ends from movie productions spooled in
standard 35mm cassettes. You shoot, then they develop the film as a negative.
Then they make a positive film "print" of the entire roll, just like making a
print of a movie. The nice part is that you can have as many prints of the roll
made as you wish, each as good as the last. It's a lot less expensive to run the
entire roll than to have reversal dupes of a small section of slide film, which
is apparently what you have been pricing. You can even order prints with various
exposure or color corrections if you have screwed up your original shots. And,
although it doesn't apply to VM, you can also have paper prints made from the
same negs. Another "poor man's route" to duplicates is also to simply shoot
several takes of something you think you'll be wanting to share. It's easy with
VM because you get five or six hundred pictures to a roll, or something like
that.
