Regarding Realist vs. Euro formats. Having done both over the years
using a Realist 2.8 for 5 sprocket and a Verascope and FED for 7
sprocket. I have come to these conclusion:

Realist advantage:

Having a larger proportion of foreground and background due to square
format, allows you to "walk" yourself into the picture towards
infinity. (This also happens with the half-frames such as Nimslo, etc.)
In fact, moving the horizon towards the top of the frame will alway
give a more pronounced 3D effect, since the ground will always appear
about 4 feet from the camera. Although you might perceive you're
looking at the world through a dog's eyes.

Verascope/FED advantage:

The bigger image uses more physical film area thus increasing apparent
resolution and contrast. The "seeing" width of the image, however, in
wide-angle terms is about the same as the Realist. Therefore more
foerground/background gets chopped off, thus creating a more pronounced
"looking through a window" effect.

The net/net. I always get a much better reaction from people looking
at the 7 sprocket for pictures indoors and from the 5 sprocket for
pictures outdoors. Plus the larger 7 sprocket physical image creates a
nicer projection illusion (I think) than the 5 sprocket which looks
better in the viewers.

By the way, I am experimenting with creating large poster size
(24"x36") full color, analgraph images using Nishika/Nimslo negatives
if anyone is interested. I might be willing to do these on a limited
basis if you really have something spectacular that you want to show.
These are computer generated and take time to produce given the large
files (about 100 meg per picture). Anyway, what would this be worth to
you all--and I realize that some of you might be already doing this as
a business so I don't want to infringe! I would have to charge $60 or
so to just cover my costs.
