Stereo Entrepreneur

I had an interesting experience this past weekend that I wanted to relate
...

Part of the festivities that accompany the start of the Iditiarod is an
international ice carving competition. Thinking it would be a great source
of unique stereo images I packed up the Realist and went downtown to burn
some film. As I was shooting one of the teams, one of them came up and
asked how much I was selling my stereo pictures for. I said, gee, I'm just
here for my own amusement. He seemed really bummed out and told me that at
a competition outside (Minnesota or Wisconsin or some such) a photographer
with a realist had been selling shots of the carvers and carvings for $10
each and included a steal_the_light viewer (sounded like the 3 buck unit
from Reel 3D). He said the carvers loved them and made me promise to show
him the shots.

It sounds like some enterprising soul has found a nice niche. Could this
mysterious photographer be a member of the list? I think its a great idea
and am considering giving it a try next year (and I'm also going to keep an
eye on the events calendar for more opportunities!)

I got some of the shots back ... I shot both with flash and with available
light (it was night). I got some interesting effects with long shutter
speeds (1 second) of motion-blurred, see-through carvers. Flash shots were
OK but lacked some of the interest provided by the motion, plus the 3D
"ghosts" are cool. I went back the next day for shots of finished carvings,
but didn't finish the roll so I'm not sure which will be best.

I've read on the list that motion blur is not a good thing in 3D, but I
kinda like it.
Comments, suggestions ... flames?
