Blackening materials

I had some time to play with my router (Christmas present)
last night so I whipped up a prototype of the medium format
viewer I want to build. As a quick and dirty method to blacken
the inside between the slide and my eyes I used a black "magic"
marker. Worked pretty good but I still get a glossy reflection.
(The performance to time invested ratio is excellent though :)

Any suggestions for better blackening materials that work on
wood and other materials? Edmund's sells some flocked black
paper that might work. They even have a self adhesive version.
Has anyone tried it? Does it stick to unfinished wood?

Any good paints out there? I hear black velvet can be used.
What about that?

Thanks for all suggestions.
