Transposing viewer

I was wondering if someone might have some information on an item I picked up
at a flea market. It was sold as a pair of "binoculars", but knowing they
were something else, I bought them. It seems to be a transposing viewer.
When looking through it, you get a distorted view of the world, much like
looking at a stereo card whose images are transposed. Things that should
look like they go away from you come toward you.

Anyway, I have used this little viewer to look at my Kodak Stereo film strips
before I cut them, and it gives a preview of the stereo effect, as if I were
looking at them cross-eyed.

Let me describe the viewer:
It is a heavy black metal thing with an interocular adjustment knob in the
middle. The only markings on it are two places where it simply says: EWEM.
It seems to be a well made viewer, not anything like some of the plastic
viewers I've seen.

I would be very interested in knowing if anyone knows anything about this
viewer or similar viewers. I could find no mention of anything like this in
any stereo literature I could find.

Regards,

Jim Thomas
