Cheapest replacement for the Mercury battery are the zinc-air hearing aid
batteries (1.4V) available most anywhere (Target, Safeway, "general-merchandise"
stores, etc). They sell four-packs of the 675 size (as I recall my numbers) for
about $1.25/cell or so. They need a washer (I use a star-lock-washer) to make them fit,
but that isn't hard to rube-goldberg up. They seem to last longer than the several
months they are said to work. Probably because they can be "run down" quite a
bit before they're too low for the low current camera meter systems need. May
depend upon usage. But they're cheap enough to stock up on and have spares in
every pocket....

If you hate rube-goldberg solutions and want a perfect, albeit spendy, drop-in,
they Wein sells some 625 replacement cells that are really 675 cells with a
built-in washer. Much neater and tidier, but about five times more expensive.
