I think died when color negative got "good enough" and allowed the movie 
companies to get out from under the thumb of Natalie et al. The 
Technicolor Co. did not sell the cameras or process to the studios. They 
had to "rent" the whole shebang at a price of so much a "release foot of
film"..imagine the royalty on THAT!. If they agreed they got a color
director, cameras, and film stock furnished by Technicolor. So when they 
did get away they could go back to studio owned Mauers and Bell and 
Howells or the later Panavision etc. BobH
