Is it too high priced or is it unaffordable?

The recent thread about "too high prices" on 3-D equipment brings up a
question? Is it that the prices are "unaffordable" as compared to a
person's means or just "objectionable?" If the answer is "unaffordable,"
then I would like to offer a solution. If it is "objectionable," the laws
of supply & demand have been covered by other comments and definitely are at
work here. Why are the auction results of some items very high? This is not
a trick question. It was answered in Econ 101. It's Supply & Demand, Stupid!

For the folks who find prices "unaffordable": find trade items. If you
look hard at camera shows, flea markets, antique shows, etc. you will find
some 3-D that a dealer can use. Yes, it is time consuming, but it's
potentially cheaper. And if time is at premium, then pay the "price" and
stop whining.

Most dealers will take items in trade for other items. I do. I try to help
3-d enthusiasts out if it's a question of affordability. However, what irks
me to no end and makes my blue eyes turn brown is the person who whines and
whines about price just because he/she remembers that it sold for 50% less 5
years ago.

Additionally, I give some of my customers time to pay for equipment they
have purchased. I have a retired 3-d enthusiast, who is probably well over
75, whose sole source of income is from Social Security. He loves
projectors and when he sees something that he likes, he takes 3-4 months to
pay for it. I am happy and he is happy.

I don't mention this to get a pat on the back (a massage would be better).
I mention it because I strongly believe that there's a way to get what you
want. It may take time and effort or just plain bucks, but any one with a
strong desire to shoot in 3-d will do it. They will find a way.
