OK, there are people interested in 3-D movies on this list. I thought it was
just cameras. This is what I would like to see regarding 3-D movies.
To see 3-D movies now, you need to go to an IMAX theater (not all have 3-D
movies) or a theme park. Walt Disney World in Florida has two attractions -
Honey, I shrunk the audience and Muppet Vision 4-D. Universal Studios in
Florida has two attractions - Alfred Hitchcock: The Art of Making Movies
with some unreleased 3-D footage and this summer they will have Terminator
2: 3-D. Other theme parks also have 3-D movie theaters. Once in a while, a
local movie theater might have one. Thats about it for 3-D movies at a
theater.
For 3-D movies at home you have two choices. You can buy the three tapes that
have no 3-D effect whatsoever - Robot Monsters, Cat Women of the Moon and
The Mask from Rhino Home Video. The other choice is to buy the system that
3-D TV Corporation has. It has excellent 3-D. The images have depth and
objects do come out of the screen. The only problem is the tape selection.
They have about 80 tapes but, most of them are documentaries, computer
graphics, technical and travelogues. Four of the tapes are movies that were
shown at movie theaters - Outlaw Territory, Hideous Mutant, Revenge and
Empire. If all you want is to see 3-D on your television, this system is
fine. But, if want a story to go with it, except the four movies they have,
they need a larger selection.
A few years ago they did have a large selection of 3-D movies - (examples:
Dial M for Murder, House of Wax, Coming at Ya!, Jaws 3 in 3D, Friday
the 13th part 3 in 3D , etc.) but, they did not sell enough copies so, they
were discontinued. The reason they did not sell well was they never
advertised! Did you ever see an advertisement for them in any magazine? They
also charged $300 for the basic system (stereo visor, stereodriver, DC
adapter and a 3D tape) back then. Now its $145. If bought in bulk, the price
is further reduced (ex: 3-10 $101, 501-2,000 $79, 10,0001-30,000 $58).
The problem is how to increase their tape selection. Anyone have any ideas?
One of you did mention calling StereoVision to have 3-D midnight movie nights
at a local movie theater. Maybe you could call them and see if they are
interested in putting the movies they have on VHS tape for 3-D TV. Any of you
know any other companies that own the rights to 3-D movies? If you do, please
call them. Another idea I had was to e-mail Universal Studios about selling
3-D movies. They will have two 3-D attractions this summer. Have the people
leaving the 3-D movie attraction walk into a room selling 3-D movies on tape.
Have areas where they can see a demonstration tape of the 3-D movies. The
people will already be excited about seeing a 3-D movie, now they can watch
3-D movies at home! How about if everyone subscribing to this list e-mail
Universal Studios requesting they sell 3-D movies, using 3D-TVs system not
the Rhino Home Video garbage. Im sure they would think about it with so many
people e-mailing them. I already have and they e-mailed me and said they
would forward my suggestion to their Merchandise department. On the web enter
http://www.usf.com/feedback.html, write a few sentences, and thats it! You
could make a difference.
If any of you have an interest in 3D movies, want to form a 3D movie club,
know where other 3D tapes are available, whatever, I would sure like to know.
Thanks.
