Try going to a consulting engineer's office or surveyor's office.  They
commonly do ink drafting (& computer plotting) on a specially-coated mylar
film.  Normally comes in 3-mil, 4-mil, and 7-mil.  They'll probably be 
willing to give you some scraps. 

I've used frosted mylar for years as a diffuser; even works for "quickie"
light tables...
