Hey....I heard what Smarttie the Lad was yakkin' about.....all that Atomic,
Boomerang shaped furniture and signs...etc.
50s 3-D's...and colectibles...
Anybody who has transistor radios, old radios, or 3-D slides of Summer Camps,
Diners, or anything 50's kitsch.....I would love to hear from you! I am
working on an exhibit on the history of summer camps....for an installation
in January 1997.
I love that stuff too....Lattie smartly traded with me on some neat views a
while back.
Last year....I created an exhibit of 22 original shots of diners....shot
professionally in the mid 50's, in Kodachrome, for the actual
manufacturer....and the images were incorporated in to the first large
comprehensive exhibit on diners called "American Diner Then and Now"....neat
trhing about it is I got to work with Dick Gutman....known as The Dinerman.
He is an authority on diner architecture, history, and restoration....and lo
and behold.....came to see the show that Ron Labbe and I did called "Space
Shots 3-D"....and became a 3-D lover as all of us nuts are!
I have a lot of 50s stuff I have collected....I love the charm and artistic
innocence of 50s Kodachrome amateur shots......some husband photographs his
wife in front of the Sphinx, in Egypt....and its 131 degrees, camels spitting
in the backround....all kinds of commotion....and his wife is "perfectly
composed"....with a big red lipstick grin, in high heels, handbag to match
the shoes on her arm, in a little Donna Reed dress.... perfectly pressed
(how did they do that....starch?)....and hair perfectly coiffed!! What a
howl.. Or another one that his wife shot of him, wearing Bermuda shorts, knee
high socks, loafers, a Hawaian shirt.... riding an ostrich!!!! Yak Yak Yak!
If anyone is in Boston....come and visit the "Googie Room"
