My apologies if this got sent more than once. Problems with my mail
program.

While I am a big fan of personal criticism (Lord knows, I've made my
share of mistakes, I try to keep my mind open) I think perhaps some of
my statements were overlooked/deleted when compared to Southwestern
Art. I just wanted to re-state some original parts of my first post
with a few additonal comments (in parentheses)...my apologies to those
who like me would like this thread to die, and my congratulations to
all of you high minded individuals out there who were smart enough to
sit this one out...

I for one, while I don't find anything inherently offensive about
nudity...

...The
slides I am talking about would have been perfectly appropriate in a
presentation of the female nude.

I may not
have been horribly offended, but I was certainly squirming in my seat.

I don't want to criticize others for their own personal tastes in
"art"

many of them look "tawdry" despite the artists best intentions(IMHHO).

(OOoops! I guess I did criticize others for their own personal tastes,
and for that I am humbly sorry, but I get nervous when I'm
"squirming"! And please note the double "HH" in IMHHO)

I think the female form can be beautiful to look at....

I think they deserve their
own special show and people should know up front about it.

( or maybe just give me time to put my hands over my eyes like I do in
a horror movie, so I can peek through my fingers at the really scary
stuff??!!)

 I'm sure
that a minority of nude slides transcend all boundaries and would be
appreciated by most,

one risks lowering competition
to the lowest common denominator-maybe not such a good idea.

I think there is a place for such "art"

So, count me against censorship

how I feel and my vote

********additional comments*******
Maybe some felt I am somehow against nudity, to them I would like to
extend an invitation to go skinny dipping with me at the Yuba River
this summer. Those of us who like to strip down to our buff selves to
swim in crystal clear snowmelt and sun on bleached granite boulders
bother to hike a mile away from the main road, because we don't feel
we need to share this with those who might be offended. The kids and
parents with familes swim fully clothed near the bridge, an equally
beautiful and woundrous place. Those adventurous souls who care to
seek out more(some, parents with children), do so, and are free to do
so.

If I took my mother with me, I would be hanging out at the bridge with
the majority of folks who go there to swim in bathing suits, and might
feel a little offended (or start "squirming! :-) if people started to
strip down to their naked selves there.

Maybe I've lived in San Francisco toooo long. Sometimes I think if I
see one more naked butt or exposed breast in public, I think I'm going
to lose it. Then, there are those times I just grin and remember why
I moved here from a small town in Alabama :-)

So, catch me in the *right* mood, and give me a chance to prepare
mentally for that nudie shot, and project away. But lord knows, when
I'm sitting next to a 70 year old woman (who may in fact be just as
broad minded as I), I'll probably start to sqirm, and y'all can just
observe me and giggle at my discomfort.

Hope this clarified rather than muddied the waters...

Steve Owsley
