Quick note:
RE: digest 1261
Although around 18 messages were listed in the contents section, only >2<
were actually in the digest. what happened???
Nudity:
Haven't followed this thread closely since it tends to break down into
shouting matches fairly easily. My opinion is as follows:
In abstract (thought, that is) I find the nude perfectly acceptable to
be presented in ANY forem (below age or not. Since you'll find nudes in
most art museums and I don't think their carding folks to get in.) H O W E
V E R... It's also pretty clear that not ANY "nude" would be appropriate
for that setting. If the shots are well done and have artistic merit, then
they are appropriate. Tossing a naked woman into an otherwise crappy
picture does NOT however qualify for that distinction. My "favorite"
examples of this were shown in Atlanta by a couple guys who's names I've
conveniently forgotten. Anyway: To put it bluntly, they were crap. One
presenter's usual comment on his own slides would go something like this:
"The lighting on this woman is lousy, but the 3D saves it". Sorry! All
the 3D did was take a lousy 2D picture and make it a lousy 3D picture.
As for those ranting on about free speach:
We all have to remember that there are limits to what is acceptable and
appropriate to free speach. The oft given example is that you don't have
the right to shout FIRE in a crowded theater. Sexually explicit photos of
children are also considered inappropriate enough that it's been made
illegal.
That being said, I think that quality nudes are acceptable to be shown at
NSA meetings. I've yet to see one though. :)
