Recording 3D for the Future
There was a photo on the first page of the Sports section of our
local newspaper (The Plain Dealer) this morning which struck me
that it would have made an absolutely great stereograph or slide
for viewing 100 years or so in the future. It was an Associated
Press picture taken at the Boston Marathon with the caption
saying "Many in the field of nearly 39,000 patiently make their
way to the starting line for the 100th running of the Boston
Marathon" I suspect that many newspapers did run this same
Associated Press photo and you may want to check your own paper
to see if you agree.
This photo, probably taken from a helicopter, includes houses and
a few automobiles, a few business buildings, a white church with
a steeple, several red and white balloons, and thousands of
people along a curving road with more people on an intersecting
road in the foreground. The photographer was obviously well
acquainted with elements which make for an excellent 2D picture.
Wonder if he (or she) has ever taken stereo photos or is even
familiar with 3D photography?? Perhaps he (or she) also had one
of Dr. T's Realists and/or Jon Golden's RBT's on board. Perhaps
we will see this photo in 3D!
Wonder if Jon Golden and/or others of the Boston Photo-3D group
got any good 3D pictures of the Marathon which they might tell us
about? One more comment, that road with the thousands of runners
looked almost as congested as the road leading to Logan Airport
on a normal afternoon. :-)))
